Akwa Ibom State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria, located in the South-South geo-political zone with Uyo as the capital city. The state was created out of Cross River State on September 23, 1987. Akwa Ibom state is a multi-ethnic state of people from Ibibio, Anang, Oron, Eket, Ibeno, etc. The state is rich in natural resources and is ranked the third largest crude oil producer in Nigeria. The state slogan is "The Land of Promise".
